Governing the Government — For a Stronger, More Transparent Calvert
I’m Patrick E. Flaherty, and I’m running for Calvert County Commissioner in District 1 because I believe it’s time to govern the government — to put residents first and hold bureaucracy accountable.
My promise to you is simple and clear:
If elected, I will serve no more than two terms — a maximum of 8 years — and then step aside so new leaders can bring fresh ideas. My word is my bond.
This campaign is not about me. It’s about protecting what makes Calvert special — our rural character, our working waterfront, and the Chesapeake Bay — while delivering real, practical solutions to the challenges we face.
My Priorities:
-
Full Transparency — No more backroom deals or NDAs. Every major decision affecting our land, water, and tax dollars must be out in the open from day one.
-
A Clean Reset on Data Centers — Immediate removal of all data center language from the 2025 zoning ordinance, followed by public hearings and independent studies on water usage, wetlands, energy demand, noise, and cumulative impacts.
-
Fiscal Responsibility — Zero-based budgeting so every department justifies every dollar. Prioritize core services like roads, public safety, and parks over lower-priority spending.
-
Protecting Our Rural Character — Stronger safeguards for our communities, historic resources, and the Bay through my proposed Transparency and Protection of Rural Character Ordinance.
After 40+ years in customer service fixing what’s broken for people, I’ve learned one simple truth: complaining about problems doesn’t solve them — delivering real solutions does.
I will listen to you, work with you, and fight for Calvert families with honesty, integrity, and common sense.
If you want transparent, accountable, and solution-focused leadership, I ask for your vote in the Republican primary.
Let's govern the government. Let’s build a stronger Calvert — together.
